With continued efforts to fulfil our ambition off the field and our endeavours to progress and thrive at this level, FC Humber United are pleased to officially announce the addition of David Haley to the Club’s coaching staff. We welcome Dave in joining FC Humber United as first team manager, thus offering a fresh and vibrant outlook on the management of the club. A ‘UEFA A’ Licensed Coach, Dave brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge from his twenty plus years in the sport and we feel Dave identifies as the ideal candidate moving forward in leading FC Humber United.

Joining the club after a successful period with Ossett United, Dave has managed club’s from step 7 through to step 4 along with success at professional youth teams at Bradford City, Leeds United and Huddersfield Town. At Step Seven, Dave had huge success with Sherburn White Rose winning the League Cup and District Cup two seasons in a row; his success continued in winning the Challenge Cup and finishing second in the West Yorkshire Premier League in his final season.

At Step Five with Liversedge, they were runners up in the League Cup and at Step Four with Ossett Albion FC, Dave successfully guided the club to safety after being appointed when the club were rock bottom of the Northern Premier League. Breaking down his coaching style, four key principles were identified; how we play out from the back, defending in the fight zone, our transition game and re-active pressing in the final third. Within the playing style all Dave asks of his players is to be brave; get on the ball in possession, and work very hard out of possession.

Dave Haley commented on his recent appointment with FC Humber: “I am delighted to have been appointed as manager of FC Humber United, a very ambitious club that is on a very exciting journey.  I feel that I have the right knowledge and experiences within the game to make sure the journey goes in the right direction.  It will however be a big challenge; our league position isn’t the best, but it is a challenge that I am looking forward to. So far, the lads have been terrific in training, working with good intensity and loads of energy, and the support I have had from Marc and Richard has been tremendous.

At this moment in time, we are currently assessing the squad to see if we need any players to strengthen our team in our pursuit to climb the table. Our players now need to respond to the chance they have been given, and prove to the new management team that they have the ability, the energy and drive to play for FC Humber United and come with us on our journey. We have two very tough fixtures against Harrogate Railway and Hull City U23’s, where we will need these attributes in abundance along with positional discipline to get two positive results.”

Dave added: “I am very excited about returning to the NCEL and looking forward to the challenges of managing a team in this league. I will bring with me a lot of knowledge and experience of coaching and management, a playing style that incorporates work ethic and bravery, attention to detail in everything I do and most importantly I will bring with me a positive environment for the players that promotes success. Moving forward in the short-term, I aim to assess the squad and strengthen it, if required, to ensure FC Humber remains and compete at this level. Looking to the long-term, I aim to build a team capable of being promoted to the NCEL Premier League.”

With the recent additions implemented, the club very much look forward to working alongside Dave and feel strongly that his methods and approach align with that of the club. If the early indications are anything to go off, then there is know doubt the club will thrive not only at this level but show progression in future seasons.
