FC Humber’s Pre-Season Opener
Thoughts ahead of Selby Town
Ahead of the clubs pre-season opener, Mark Maspero enlightened us with his thoughts ahead of facing Selby Town; “Selby have done some shrewd business with their player recruitment and will prove to be one of the favourites for promotion this coming season. Therefore, they will be an incredibly tough test for us. I’m really looking forward to seeing how we compare.”
Further to discussions ahead of the game, Mark then spoke on how pre-season training has gone for FC Humber United; “Training has gone well. We have had the obligatory fitness sessions with lots of ball work. Working on patterns of play and our game model. We have also teamed up successfully with Hemingbrough fc on one of our 2 training nights a week. We are now concentrating on putting those plans into games.”
Key aspects through Pre-Season Friendlies
Upon further discussion with the club Manager, Mark offered his thoughts on the key aspects he will be looking for through the clubs Pre-Season campaign; “We are looking for understanding of the learning the players have undergone. Can they recognise triggers and situations that we can use to our advantage? Can we dominate the opposition in and out of possession?”
Squad Depth and Competition for places
Mark then offered his thoughts on the depth of the squad and the competition for places that shall prove key ahead of the season; “We have a squad of 20 odd players. We ideally want 2 good players in each position competing for the shirt. We currently have that but are always looking to improve.”
In continuation from squad depth, Mark shared a line or two on the clubs progression heading into pre-season; “We have had a lot of interest from players since the league was curtailed. Numbering over 50 expressions of interest at our peak. So it’s been hectic, having a look at as many of these players as possible and whittling them down to a competitive squad. But we feel we aren’t far away.”
Plans & Playing Time
On a final note, Mark shared an insight on his plans on game time through the clubs pre-season endeavours; “We have 7 games. So the lads will have plenty of game time. The players that show a better understanding of our game model will consequently get longer game time than anyone that struggles. But we are training in between games to help anyone who struggles.”
In conclusion, everyone at the club very much look forward to the challenge that Saturday and the entire season will face. We extend a reminder unto all in viewing the clubs official website: fchumberunited.co.uk and our social accounts for future updates.
