FC Humber United will look to bounce back from last weeks narrow away defeat, by beating the leagues in-form team Shirebrook Town.

Shirebrook are currently on the longest unbeaten run of any team in the league this season, stretching seven games. (Excluding their 7-1 friendly defeat).

Well aware of his opponents recent surge in form Haley said, “I am looking forward to another home fixture this week against Shirebrook Town. Another tough fixture against a team that has found a bit of form in recent weeks; unbeaten in four and winning their last two”.

One area in which Shirebrook look vulnerable is their porous defence.

Before last weekend, Shirebrook went 44 games without keeping a clean sheet, a run of games which lasted 504 days.

Despite both teams only keeping two clean sheets all season between them, it’s Humber who have been more sound defensively recently. Only conceding two in their last three games.

With this knowledge, Haley is wary of finding the right balance between attack and defence.

“Our recent results suggest our defence has been a lot tougher to break down, only conceding two goals in our last three games, the other side of the coin is that we’ve only scored three goals in our last five fixtures”.

Expanding on this Haley enquired, “can we be hard to beat but can we also create good chances at the other end of the field and score more goals? This will be what we’ll be looking to do in training this week”.

Coming into the match, Shirebrook sit four places and 17 points above Humber in the table. Shirebrook also won their most recent meeting with Humber 3-1 back in September.

However, Shirebrook don’t have fond memories of Selby. This was the last venue they lost a league match at, losing out 4-0 to Selby Town back in November. Humber will be hoping the ground will be a bad omen for their visitors this weekend.

Saturday’s match will no doubt be a tough test for Humber, but equally a test they will hope to pass. Can we build on our recent defensive solidity and find the goals needed to stay up this season?
