Following on from their latest league defeat at the Fairfax Plant Hire Stadium at the hands of Retford FC, Humber see their league campaign continue Saturday against a decent Harrogate Rail side who find themselves inside the league’s top five, after what can only be described as a good start to their campaign. Aiming to turn around the 1-4 defeat witnessed at home to Retford, Humber return to the road and visit Station View in a 3.00pm kick-off.

As has been the way for a sizable period of the season, Humber will begin the day toward the foot of the table after perhaps a turbulent start, however, sensational performances have proven sporadic thus far indicating the caliber of football the club can play, we can hope Saturday’s fixture will perhaps be the catalyst the squad requires to press on. With ten points on the board from a possible fifty-four, gaining further points to enable the club’s stay within the Northern Counties East Division One will prove the main focus of management.

Taking the focus to our opponent’s for Saturday’s Northern Counties fixture at Station View, Harrogate Rail host Humber off the back of a goalless draw on the road to Hull side, Hall Road. With regards to their season this far, The Rail have certainly begun brightly as they find themselves fifth going into the next round of fixtures. With thirty-three points collected from the opening third of the season, results have shown Harrogate are to be taken seriously this season with victories coming against Brigg Town and Nostell MW; The Rail also hold the feat of knocking out Pontefract Collieries from the West Riding County Cup.

Moving onto the next round of fixtures, once more we turn our attention to our next opposition in a hope to collect further points. Quoting their official website, FC Humber extend an opportunity to all, in reviewing a brief history of the team they face Tuesday: “Formed in 1935 by Railway workers, Harrogate Railway Athletic FC have a long history supporting the local community and developing young talent. We have been one of the most successful Amateur football teams in our region winning multiple competitions at all levels throughout the years even reaching the FA Cup second round in 2002/03 and 2007/08 just losing on both occasions against Bristol City and Mansfield Town.

Our Junior section are in an exciting phase with a new partnership with Harrogate High School that enables the club to have more space which allows for more players and teams. We have more qualified coaches than ever before and hope to grow to offer our players the very best junior football experience possible.

We are proud of our club’s philosophy of long-term player development, our sessions are designed around the FA 4 corner Technical/Tactical, Physical, Psychological and Social where we aim to create age-appropriate game realistic practices to suit the player and team whilst having fun, forging friendships and keeping fit!”

Tale of the Tape

When it comes to FC Humber United versus Harrogate Railway Athletic, the two sides have only met in competitive action on two occasions. Through the short period FC Humber have existed in their many forms, two occasions they have met Harrogate Rail and as the record stands, FC Humber have yet to collect a victory or draw against Saturday’s opposition, whilst Harrogate have won the two previous encounters. Saturday’s fixture will again prove a different test for FC Humber; however, the Club will certainly have their sights set on improving their fortunes, from the previous outings this season.

Of the two fixtures FC Humber and Harrogate Rail have met in competitive action, there have only been five goals between the two; unfortunately all five of the said goals have come from The Rail. The last time these two met, was in league action on 6th October 2020, the tie ended in a close two-nil victory in Harrogate’s favour. It would be suffice to say Humber will aim their sights on a much-improved result in the latest meeting between the two, as the club search for their next points on the board.
