FC Humber United made the midweek trip across the Humber Bridge to face our Humber rivals Brigg Town for the second time this season.
Following our entertaining 5-4 win earlier in the season we went on the hunt for an unlikely double league win over promotion chasing Brigg Town.
Eddie Wileman continued to haunt Brigg this season as he opened the scoring last night, this being his 4th goal against Brigg following a hat-trick in the 5-4 win back in October 2021. It wasn’t until shortly before the half time break that Brigg finally found an equaliser to send both teams into half time all square at 1-1.
The second half followed much of the first period, Brigg on the attack and Humber holding firm looking to hit on the counter with our pacey front three of Tom Alngohuro, Szymon Czubik and Ewan Hallows putting in some shift all night.
Heading into the closing quarter of the match the action began to unfold and chaos happened at both ends of the pitch.
First it was Humber to strike on the 78th minute through Gary Lumley scoring his first goal for Humber. The Brigg keeper failing to deal with a ball into the box it landed kindly to Gaz who fired home to send the Humber team and following into raptures on and off the pitch.
Holding out for the win was the instructions sent from the sidelines, Humber stood firm however lightning struck twice in two games with Brigg snatching an equaliser once again in the 88th minute. It was another heartbreaking moment in football but we didn’t give up.
As Brigg pushed everyone forward from the kick off going in search of the winner themselves, a long ball over the top found Tom and Ewan in the clear, a cross into the box beating the onrushing keeper found the head of the retreating Brigg defender to put it into his own net… what happened next can only be described as pandemonium! We are not sure who was at the bottom of the pile-on and with Humber goalkeeper Dave Howard joining in the celebrations you can tell how much this meant to the lads.
FT: Brigg Town 2 – 3 FC Humber United
A fantastic night of football entertainment once again as Humber secure a historic league double over Brigg Town this season.
