FC Humber United got their first win of 2022 as they beat relegation rivals Teversal 2-0 in a crucial battle at the bottom of the Northern Counties East League Division One.

Early in the game Humber caused trouble down Teversal’s right flank Szymon Czubik beat three men before eventually winning a corner which was not converted.

The hosts kept up the early pressure with several chances Jack Durkin and Brandon Burke both saw shots blocked by the visitors.

Elliot Coulowell had the first real chance for the visitors after narrowly staying onside and beating Durkin to get a shot off, but he could not keep the ball on target and fired over.

Despite Coulowell’s chance it was Humber who remained firmly on top, and they nearly scored when Burke played a ball across the box, but no one could get on the end of it.

28 minutes in and Humber’s pressure finally paid off when Louis Blackwell slotted the ball after a fast-paced counterattack led by Czubik set up the forward.

Just five minutes before the interval Czubik had a header go just over the bar after a pinpoint cross from Reuban Pearse.

Early in the second half Burke broke through the Teversal defence with some clever footwork and unleashed a powerful effort straight at Joe Parker in the visitor’s goal.

Humber had two quickfire chances 65 minutes into the game the first coming from Burke who fired over from just outside the box and the second was scuffed by half time substitute Luke Sidaway.

Just a minute later though the pressure paid off for Humber as debutant Tom Alngohuro’s shot turned into a brilliant pass to Czubik who curled the ball home to double the lead.

Next up for Humber is an away match against Nostell Miners Welfare next Saturday as they look to keep their momentum from this win.
