FC Humber United took an emphatic 5-1 victory as they hosted Parkgate FC in the penultimate match of the Northern Counties League Division One season.
Humber dominated early in the game and Owen Thomas made the pressure count when he looped a ball over Marko Porozovs’s head to make it 1-0 with a goal that came out of nowhere.
Red Bates and George Green had two quick-fire chances following the early goal both of which went narrowly wide of Porozovs’s right-hand post.
Humber’s pressure continued, and Green got his first of two goals when he managed to make a run in behind the visitors’ defence and double Humber’s lead.
Parkgate got a goal back after a corner was half-cleared and eventually fired home to reduce Humber’s lead.
Green restored Humber’s two-goal advantage after a well-struck effort took a minor deflection to help the ball into the goal.
Bates opened the second half brightly for Humber as he had two shots early in the half which went inches wide of the post both times.
Freddie Tracey had Parkgate’s first and only real chance of the second half after his cross turned into a shot and very nearly went into the back of the net.
Just moments after Parkgate’s chance, Adam Baskerville got the first goal of the second half to make it 4-1 Humber with a tidy finish into the bottom right corner.
Baskerville got his second and final goal of the day with an off-balance tough finish into the bottom left corner as Porozovs stood dormant after being caught off guard.
Humber will finish their season on Tuesday night when they host Hall Road Rangers.
